This page contains information regarding laws governing door to door solicitation in Abington Township. Below is the ordinance that was passed by the Board of Commissioners regarding solicitation in 2013, in accordance with state laws. Below you will find a sample solicitation permit that must be worn by and visible on permitted solicitors, as well as, a list of companies and individuals registered to do door-to-door solicitation in the township on a month-to-month basis.

If you would like to register your home on our no solicitation list, you may do so on the form located at the bottom of the following page http://www.abingtonpd.org/no-solicitation-window-clings-available/. Additionally, the Police Department has "No Solicitation" window clings available at their office or you can download a sign from their website at http://www.abingtonpd.org/no-solicitation-window-clings-available/. Individuals who have these signs on their property may not be visited by commercial solicitors under any circumstances.

There are exceptions to the solicitation ordinances that include children under 18 canvassing for organizations like the Girl Scouts or delivering newspapers, candidates for elective office and "canvassers". The solicitation ordinance defines "canvassers" as individuals conducting survey research, gathering contributions for a charitable cause, individuals advancing a religious or political cause and similar work as long as they are not of a commercial nature. You may still call 911 if you have the “no solicitation” sign, or are on the “no solicitation” list and a solicitor still approaches you, or if they are pushy or rude.

If you are seeking a solicitation permit you may apply for one with our police department by filling out this form http://www.abingtonpd.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Soliciation-Permit-_1_.pdf and returning it to our Records and Information Office at the Police Department (at 1166 Old York Rd, Abington PA 19001) along with payment.

If you have questions you can call the Records and Information Office at 267-536-1065 or email at ROC@Abington.org
