Established in 1704, Abington Township is a Township of the first class located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. We are a first- ring suburb of Philadelphia with over 55,000 residents. The Township is easily accessible by Interstate 276, PA 611, PA 309, PA 232 and SEPTA service. With six train stations, three regional rail lines and several bus routes, residents and employees can quickly travel to and from the City of Philadelphia and surrounding municipalities. Abington Township strives to provide high quality services to all residents. The Township is served by a large nationally recognized full-time Police force and an internationally recognized all-volunteer Fire Department comprised of five fire stations.
The Township's Public Works Department provides trash and recyclable disposal; collects yard waste; maintains Township roads including snow removal and paving, and hosts recycling and collection events year-round. The Parks and Recreation Department maintains over 25 parks comprising over 375 acres of open space, including two pools, a skate-park, wildlife sanctuary and Nature Center. They also host various events and programming throughout the year for youth and young adults. The Township is served by two libraries that are free to residents and offer thousands of books, audios, and engaging programming. Majority of the Township is serviced by public water through Aqua, Pennsylvania and public sewer systems maintained by the Township's Wastewater Department.
The Township benefits from a plethora of transportation options with Easton Road, Huntington Pike (PA 232) and Old York Road (PA 611) running through the Township, PA I-276 and PA 309 within minutes and multiple SEPTA Regional Rail and Bus services. Its location allows for convenient travel options, taking less than a half-hour by train to get to Center City, Philadelphia.
