Being a Responsible Dog and/or Cat Owner

Reminders from Abington Township Animal Control

  • Your cat must be vaccinated for rabies.Image of cat and dog laying next to each other.
  • Please have your cat neutered. Feeding cats outside is prohibited.
  • Your cat will live longer and healthier if kept in your home.
  • Your dog must be vaccinated for rabies.
  • Your dog must be licensed.
  • Your dog must be on a leash, no longer than eight feet, controlled by a person when off of your property. Extension leashes and electric collars are not permitted as restraints, when off of your property.
  • When walking your dog on the sidewalk, please give the right of way to pedestrians or joggers. Please don’t permit your dog to jump on others.
  • Please help the Township reduce bites by acting responsibly and having control of your dog.
  • Avoid keeping your dog inside of cars during summer months.
  • Ensure that your dog is safe when tethered.
  • When outside your dog must have shelter or cover from the elements. (Dog house). Tethered dogs (affixed to a line) are permitted outside for 30 minutes when temperature is below 32 degrees.
  • Please see to it that your dog is not outside barking before 7 AM or after 9 PM or anytime longer than 10 minutes continuous.
  • Please do not permit your dog to relieve itself on your neighbor’s property, when you have been advised not to.. Please clean up after your dog.
